http://www.inisfail.com/archives/salamanders-jon-boyce.html
read the section of the purging.
its true, they have no susccesor chapters, because no salamander would leave the salamanders to rule the new chapter until they had purged the unrighteous. it percectly accepatable that they high lords of terra used the geneseed they had been storing for use in the chapter though.
sorry to be a fluff nazi

True, there are o successor chapters. That doesn't mean that a chapter can't be excommunicated, an unfortunate event which happened to teh Son't of Pyrus. No longer able to call themselves Salamanders, they instead named themselves after their Chaplain. They are currently trying to work their way back into the Emperors good graces by going on a crusade.

No successor chapters, true. Sons of Pyrus are a splinter group. They were excommunicated from teh Imperium for using Xenos technology. So they are following thier deceased Chaplain Pyrus (entombed within a Dreadnaught) on a crusade to regain their rights as protectors of the emperor. To reresent this (and to make sure they stay a true splinter group and not a successor chapter of teh Salamanders) I use the Chaos Space Marine codex. They have no daemons, and no marks. The only one that has Daemonic Gifts (bar teh Obliterator and Raptors) is Pyrus himself, havinng attained an almost ethereal state in his dreadnaught with the addition of alien technologies. Yes, he knows this, but he knows his chapters salvation lies in him helping them home. So he will return them to their rightful place at tehir emperors side and let the inquisitors do as they wish.
